Privacy Policy
Peer Messenger (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Peer Messenger mobile application and related services at peermessage.net. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our services.
1. Summary
Peer Messenger is designed so that your social content (photos, blogs, contacts, and sharing lists) is stored primarily on your device. Our servers handle account verification, relay routing metadata, and delivery of encrypted content between devices — not a central copy of your albums or posts.
2. Information we collect
- Phone number. Used to verify your identity and associate your account with your device.
- Device information. Device identifiers, platform (iOS/Android), and push notification tokens so we can deliver verification messages and wake your app when needed.
- Profile information you provide. Display name, avatar, and similar optional profile fields.
- Server metadata. Relay routing records, authentication tokens, contact-invite records, and encrypted content delivery metadata. We do not store the plaintext of your photos, blogs, or direct messages on our servers.
- Technical logs. Limited server logs (timestamps, error codes, request paths) for security and reliability. We do not log OTP codes in production.
3. How we use information
- Authenticate you via one-time passcode (OTP) SMS
- Route encrypted requests between your device and your contacts’ devices
- Deliver push notifications for invites and pending requests
- Maintain security, prevent abuse, and comply with law
- Improve reliability of our services
4. SMS and text messaging
Peer Messenger uses SMS only to deliver one-time verification codes when you request sign-in. We do not send promotional or marketing text messages.
- Opt-in: You choose to receive SMS by entering your mobile number and affirmatively consenting in the Peer Messenger app or on our SMS opt-in page.
- Message frequency: Messages are sent only when you request a verification code. You may receive up to 3 verification messages per hour per phone number.
- Charges: Message and data rates may apply.
- Mobile information non-sharing: Mobile information, including your phone number and SMS opt-in consent, will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We use a messaging provider (Twilio) solely to deliver verification codes on our behalf under contract; they do not use your number for their own marketing.
- Help: Email support@peermessage.net.
- Opt-out: Verification texts are transactional and sent only at your request. To stop receiving them, do not request a code. You may delete your account by contacting support@peermessage.net.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only:
- With service providers that help us operate the app (e.g., SMS delivery, push notification services, cloud hosting), under contractual obligations to protect your data and use it only to provide services to us
- When required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security
- With other users only as you direct — for example, profile details and content you choose to share with contacts
We do not share, sell, rent, or transfer mobile phone numbers or SMS consent data to third parties, affiliates, or lead generators for their own marketing purposes.
6. Data retention
Server-side authentication and routing metadata are retained only as long as needed to provide the service, comply with law, or resolve disputes. OTP challenges expire within minutes. You may request account deletion by contacting us; device-local data is removed when you uninstall the app.
7. Security
Traffic between apps and our servers uses TLS. Content shared between peers is end-to-end encrypted. No system is perfectly secure; use a strong device passcode and keep your app updated.
8. Your choices
- You choose which contacts to add and what content to share.
- You may request access to or deletion of server-held account data by emailing privacy@peermessage.net.
- You may stop using the service at any time by deleting the app and requesting account deletion.
9. Children
Peer Messenger is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
10. International users
Our servers may be located in the United States. If you use the service from another country, your information may be processed in the U.S.
11. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page with an updated effective date.
